“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” — 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

The Forgotten Discipline

In our busy lives, spiritual habits like prayer and reading Scripture often receive the spotlight. Yet, one discipline we tend to overlook is the care of our bodies—the very temple of the Holy Spirit.

When we neglect our health, overindulge, or live without balance, we drain our energy and weaken our ability to serve. But when we choose to eat well, rest properly, and nurture our physical body, we honor the One who created us.

Eating with Purpose

Food is more than fuel; it is a gift from God. Every meal can be an act of gratitude or an act of carelessness. Eating well does not mean vanity—it means stewardship.

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31

When you rise each morning, remember: in Christ, every new breath carries purpose.”

Beyond the Physical

Caring for your body is not about vanity but vitality. A nourished body sustains a focused mind and a vibrant spirit. When you honor your body, you honor Christ, showing that you recognize the sacred dwelling place of His Spirit within you.

Habits for Honoring God with Your Body

Here are small, daily steps that align health with holiness:

Mindful Eating: Choose foods that strengthen rather than weaken. Say “no” to excess sugar, processed meals, and habits that harm.

Hydration: Water sustains life—drink abundantly and give thanks for it.

Rest and Renewal: Sleep is not wasted time; it is God’s design for restoration.

Movement as Worship: Exercise is not punishment; it is stewardship. A walk in creation can become a prayer of gratitude.

Gratitude at the Table: Pray before meals, not out of ritual but as recognition of God’s provision.

A Prayer for Strength and Stewardship

“Lord, thank You for the gift of this body, Your temple. Teach me to honor You in my eating, resting, and moving. Give me strength to resist harmful habits and wisdom to embrace what brings life. May my health reflect Your glory. Amen.”

To eat well and care for your body is more than self-discipline—it is worship. Every healthy choice whispers: “Lord, I belong to You.”
